Basic Bookmark Tutorial
(Making your own template)

The objective of this tutorial is:

1. To make a bookmark template, using simple geometrical shapes.

2. To have a better understanding of using layers, that you control and not psp.

3. Using your toolbars and making your own personalized settings.

4. To make your own selections so you can use your template over and over again with little repeated efforts.

5. To use the multi-print feature in Paint Shop Pro.

4. To understand the basic concept of templates.

Getting Prepared

I think the hardest part of getting yourself ready is to decide on what you want to do. You need a blueprint of what you want. Bookmarks are simple enough but you can design your template to fit your needs.

For this tutorial, we will do a simple bookmark with rounded edges. Once that is finished I will show you how to make a few changes to make simple deferent templates.

Things that I use for making templates:

A good ruler. One that has lots of measurements.

A notebook. I like to sketch out what I want to do. This doesn't necessarily mean that my final project will look like that. After all "A Woman Always Has the Right to Change Her Mind". I also make notes of my image in referance to sizes, dpi etc.

I also have on-hand some real cheap paper to print the template when testing. I have a small stack of printed paper that was an "Oops". I take a marker and X out one side and use the clean reverse side of the paper.

Let's Get Started

1. Open up psp

2. I have decided that I want to make my bookmark 2 inches wide by 5 inches tall. So we will open up a new image that will be larger so we have some room to change our minds and some working space. I also like to design my templates around 200 dpi (dots per inch) so my final project when printing is crisp and clear. To make out first image.

Go to "file" "new" and a box should pop out. Make the settings like this.

What we are telling psp we want is. We want an image that is 4 inches width by 6 inches wide, the resolution is 200 pixels per inch, the background is transparent and we want 16.7 million colors.

Click O.K. and them minimize this image. We will use it in a little bit.

We are now ready to move on to the tutorial.
