Basic Bookmark Tutorial
(Making your own template)

Moving right along...Clean-up

Everything that we need to finish our template is in layers on the pallet image. Now what we need to do is a little clean-up.

First we should do a little quality control and make sure that the circles are in the right place and aligned. Check the following things.

1. Does the top circle look good over the rectangle? Are you happy with designs of the lines? If you need to readjust it.

Click on the top circle layer

Click on the mover tool and place the curser on the red lines of the circle and move the circle until you are happy with it.

2. Check to make sure that your bottom circles are aligned with the sides of the rectangle. Use the mover tool and the appropriate layer to aligh your circles.

Erasing the Excess lines.

Now we will erase the excess lines to make one line of the template. I love using the eraser tool. ;o)

Lets start with the basic rectangle layer.

Highlight the basic rectangle layer. Using your eraser took delete the top left and right hand corners of the rectangle. I use these settings.

Don'w worry about the white. Follow your red lines and erase the lines of the rectangle that you don't want. This is what mine looked like. Nothing Pretty.

Next we will work on the top corner layer.

Highlight the top corner layer and carefully erase the center of the red circle that is inside the rectangle. make sure you don't over erase. This is what mine looked like.

Next we will work on the bottom right and bottom left layer. Delete the centers of the circles, leaving the round corners. Remember to highlight the area that you want, then erase and then change layers. This is what my final image looks like.

Why, I think it's beginning to look a lot like a bookmark. If you are happy with the lines we will move on and do the magic and make our template.

To finalize the template.

1. Delete the layer called back. Highlight the layer called back, right click and delete.

2. Let's crop down our template in size so when we print multiple images we can fit more templates per page and not waste paper.

Click on the crop tool bar and make a box closely around the template. when you are sure that the square doesn't cut off anything then right click. The image will resize. Looks like this. Note transparent background, the crop tool bar is highlighted and nothing is cut off.

3. Document our template. Remember I said that I like to have notepaper around. Now is the time that I document what my template is for the future. Go to image information and write down this information in my little notebook. When I want to design a new bookmark, I know what size to open it up at and the resolution. When finished click ok.

4. Go to "layers" "merge visible". You should now have one layer called merged.

5. Click on the magic wand. Then click on the image outside of the template lines. You should get the dancing ants around the image and around the outside of the template. We need to just make the dancing ants around the template. To do this. Click on "selections" "invert". Make sure the dancing ants is around the outside of the template.

4. Now we are going to save the template shape as a selection. I like to do this so I can use the basic shape and make differant thickness for future projects.

Click on "selections" "save to disk". A window pops up and you need to name your selection. I called mine bookmark. ;o) Original I know.

5. With the dancing ants....click on the delete key of your key board. You should get a blank image with the dancing ants in the shape of your bookmark. Get rid of the dancing ants. "select" "select none".

6. Now this is where we get organized again with our layers.

make 3 layers. rename them to read....

We are now ready to move on to the tutorial.
